RealBridge Bidding Contest – Annual Competition, 2024

Even some of those at the top of the annual competition leader-board found June a difficult month, with many returning scores in the 50s and 60s that they will be looking to drop towards the end of the year.

A couple of players took advantage of the struggles of others: leader Lysander Zheng extended her lead, although fellow-Kiwi Stephen Merriman with 74/80 and defending champion Dave Williams with 75/80 are still close behind. A 73/80 from perennial contender Pete Law moves him up to fourth, whilst former winner Alexander Cook’s 76/80 brings him to within a point of the top four. At the moment, it’s a race between two Brits, three Antipodeans and an Indian, but there is still a long way to go.

England’s Gareth Birdsall’s 75/80 earns him a place in the top 10. Despite dropping a couple of places, April winner and this month’s guest panelist, Paul Dubois from San Diego CA, remains the leading American, although Todd Holes joins him in the Top 10. The leading eleven competitors are still all averaging 70/80 or higher over the first six months of the competition.

There are also a few who have missed one month who are also averaging more than 70, notably Milko Slavov and former winner Luwen Koh. They will be in a position to get on level terms with the leaders towards the end of the year when everyone starts dropping their weakest scores.

The annual score is the total of the best 9 monthly scores over the year.
